Tulsipur Airport, 1967. Dwarika Nath Dhungel (third from left) and a classmate have found willing partners for a photograph in two young Tharu women. The women had no qualms about complete strangers putting their arms around their shoulders. Perhaps they were too excited at the prospect of getting photographed to mind that. Dhungel believes it was down to their innocence.

The study group had planned to fly out to Bhairawa from Tulsipur. But they only managed to get two tickets. A decision was made to send the group’s two female students on that flight. The rest of the students had no means of getting to Bhairawa until the zonal commissioner lent them his jeep. This is a photo of the students traveling in that jeep to Koilabas. The students got on a train at Koilabas and went to Nautunwa, from where they proceeded to Gorakhpur. From Gorakhpur they headed for the Nepal border.
