The students in the photo had participated in the training. There are an equal number of male and female participants—a remarkable feat in the conservative village. Manandhar believes the presence of female trainers was the major motivation for the girls to participate.

Sumitra Manandhar Gurung and her colleagues had taken some of their students from the school in Chiti Tilahar to participate in an inter-school competition in Besi Sahar, Lamjung. The competition had events like dancing and sports. This photo was taken in the playground of a school in Besi Sahar.
